Description

The Lisanby Museum (part of the Madison Art Collection) was named after JMU alumna Gladys Kemp Lisanby ('49) and her late husband, James Lisanby. She received the Mississippi Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts in recognition of her work with the National Museum of Women in the Arts. She created the Lisanby Art History Scholars in Museum Studies scholarship to support incoming freshmen who were interested in pursuing museum studies and art history. Eligible recipients for the Lisanby Art History Scholars in Museum Studies are incoming freshmen who declare Art History as their major and who have an interest in museum studies. The successful recipients must additionally complete a 1-credit internship with Dr. Kathryn Stevens at the Madison Art Collection exploring areas of museum studies during the first semester of their freshman year. Award: $2,000 for the freshman year.
