Abstract
Research prompted concern about international students’ adjustment and acculturation as challenges to their US college experience. In line with this, international students at JMU have lower GPAs and retention rates than domestic peers and a marked decrease in their co-curricular engagement since 2020. Utilizing a measure of noncognitive skills related to student success, we found international students scored notably low in sense of belonging, which predicted GPA, and recommended an intervention to increase belonging and academic success.
