JMU Alumni Association chapters and Regional Ambassadors regularly are engaged in on-going and life-changing service efforts in their local communities. JMU alumni are engaged with their alma mater and with their neighbors, weaving a rich story of giving back and being the change. It is often easy to overlook the magnitude of alumni community engagement because their efforts occur in communities far flung from Harrisonburg.

Until now there has not been a single source of information about, much less a comprehensive listing of, these projects. Alysia Davis, Assistant Director of Alumni Relations for Chapter Programs has prepared a report to celebrate the efforts of JMU alumni to improve their communities, our nation, and the world. The report is also intended to serve as a source of information and inspiration for alumni who are contemplating starting community service projects or who are looking for existing programs in which to get involved.

Institution - Alumni engagement promotes bonding for chapter members, strengthening their ties to both each other but also to JMU because of their strong sense of alumni identity Community - The breadth and depth of the alumni service projects provide much needed support for community agencies and service initiatives. In a recent thank you letter that the Office of Alumni Relations received from a nonprofit in Lynchburg, the organization's President and CEO wrote, "Our JMU connections run deep. This support is greatly appreciated and used well for those we serve. Go Dukes!"
