Luis Nova Publishes Article on the Engaged Classroom
Description
CIS/BSAN professor Luis Novoa recently published a piece on engaged classroom learning in ORMS Today, a web publication of INFORMS.org, an international association for operations research and analytics professionals. Titled “Mathematical Programming Physical Model: A Multidimensional Learning Tool,” the article outlines Novoa’s use of a self-built, bespoke model that he uses in class to enhance learning with what he describes as “a brain-based teaching approach with an active, student-centered and experiential emphasis at its core…that focuses on intuition as opposed to memorization.” Mindful that students can be visual, auditory or kinesthetic learners, Novoa believes that he has developed “a tool that targets all sensory learning preferences through an in-class activity that seeks to build and foster intuition on concepts in mathematical programming via visualization, movement and physical interaction.” Read more about his approach.
