JMU's Center for Innovation in Engineering Education and the Department of Engineering aspire to be the best undergraduate engineering program for the world, by nurturing project-ready engineers who better industry, society, and the planet through responsible innovation. Students, faculty and staff in this community start working on projects on day one. Madison Engineering provides an engineering education rich in design, systems thinking, and project management, and opportunities to customize learning through real engineering projects. The program has proven to be a springboard to just about any type of career possible.

After 8 semesters of authentic project work, students graduate project-ready, and prepared for the flexibility and resilience needed in the rapidly changing work world. Smaller classes facilitate supportive mentoring by faculty which benefits both faculty and students. The small classes also require a higher level of student engagement.
