Description
Furious Flower is the nation’s first academic center devoted to African American poetry. The center serves JMU, the local Harrisonburg community, and scholars everywhere with education, research and publishing. Cultivating, honoring and promoting the diverse voices of Black poets, the Center collaborates with educational and cultural institutions, literary organizations and artists. The Center offers seminars and conferences for writers, educators and students, readings featuring emerging and established poets, integrated arts camps for elementary and middle school students, concerts and other arts experiences for the general public and multimedia materials for classroom and individual use.
