Description
The Climate Justice Coalition was originally founded to formally encourage JMU to stop using money from its endowment for fossil fuels. The Coalition has given presentations to the JMU Foundation, proposing that they stop investing in fossil fuels. The purpose of this organization is to build student power and raise public awareness while actively campaigning for individuals, institutions, and governmental bodies to take action to prevent and mitigate anthropogenic climate change. The Climate Justice Coalition (CJC) recognizes that impending climate change poses the greatest threat to human rights that our generation will face, including the rights to health, safety, and security. CJC takes seriously the responsibility to act on an awareness of the threat of systemic global destabilization caused by predicted climate change patterns, and an awareness of its driving factors, to support the communities most at-risk for climate-driven disaster, primarily including those communities that are marginalized by current global powers.
