Faculty Development Workshop for Service-Learning and Community Engaged Educators

Sponsoring Organization

VCU Office of Service-Learning and the University of Richmond Bonner Center for Civic Engagement

Detail

Each year, the VCU Office of Service-Learning and the University of Richmond Bonner Center for Civic Engagement jointly host a faculty development workshop designed for instructors who are teaching community-engaged or service-learning courses.

During this year's workshop, participants will consider the development of professionalism as part of their students’ learning in community-engaged/service-learning coursework. Workshop presenters will share the results of a recent VCU service-learning community partner survey, including a description of the professionalism skills that community partners desire from undergraduate volunteers. A description of pilot results from a service-learning class project related to the development of students’ professionalism will also be presented. Through discussion and collaboration, participants will develop and share ideas for helping students in community-engaged/service-learning classes deepen their professional identities, acquire 21st century skills, and become reflective early career professionals.

The workshop will be held on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 on the University of Richmond campus from 9AM-12Noon. To attend this FREE workshop, please complete the online registration form no later than Tuesday, Jan. 30th. Breakfast and snacks will be provided and all registrants will receive a follow-up email by Feb. 1st with important workshop details and information.
