Psych & a Sandwich at Six: Radio Show & Podcast
Faculty Advisor Name
Dr. Craig Shealy
Description
Psych & a Sandwich at Six is a radio show that considers how sociological forces impact our lives from a psychological lens. It is hosted and produced by two doctoral students in JMU’s Combined-Integrated Doctoral Program in School and Clinical Psychology. Pat Kenny hosts this weekly broadcast by interviewing both rotating and one-time guests. I, Ali Kenny, am a rotating guest, and the show’s producer – recording, editing, and uploading the podcast onto SoundCloud.
Some of Psych & a Sandwich at Six’s segments include: “Goodnight Moon” (share sleep habits and how they can be improved), “Perchance to Dream” (discuss a recent dream and what it might mean), “Diagnosis du Jour” (deconstruct a DSM-5 diagnosis, highlight its features, and introduce facts), “Sport Psych Skill of the Week” (define, talk about implications, and how to further develop), “Freudian Fact” (share an interesting fact about a psychologist), “Striking a Balance” (converse how to keep your sanity by balancing Work, Love, and Play), “Tech Talk” (talk about how our interaction with technology shapes our lives), “When I Was Young…” (describe a change in culture over time and the implications thereof), and “Parallel Universe” (share what would you be if you weren’t a ___________?).
