Description
Composed in 1903, Debussy's Pagodes from "Estampes" or "Prints" is a globalized work that embodies the musical techniques between the east and the west. The inspiration behind this work is the Japanese temples that have its distinct architecture. The sonority of this piece was also inspired by the Javanese gamelans and gongs that he heard during his visit at the great Paris Exposition in 1889. This exposition was a huge convention that gathered many people from different parts of the world with the aim of showcasing their different arts and cultures.
