Abstract
This chapter explores the urgent necessity to de-Westernizing perspectives in media psychology, emphasizing the need to integrate insights from diverse socio-political and cultural contexts. It underscores the ongoing movement toward decolonizing media and communication research, challenging the prevailing elitist Western epistemologies. The chapter discusses the limitations of Western approaches within media psychology and advocates for contextualizing the Global South within its unique parameters. Ultimately, it calls for a reevaluation of power dynamics in academic knowledge production and dissemination to foster greater inclusion and equity in media psychology research.
