Abstract

This research was conducted through the form of a content analysis of network versus cable broadcast news to see how immigration coverage has shaped journalistic tactics. NBC and CNN were the news outlet representatives. NBC and CNN were the news outlet representatives. Clips from the Vanderbilt Television News Archive were coded according to their identification of immigrants and visual cues. These results were then analyzed and interpreted to see potential implications of the coverage. Overall, network news incorporated the immigrants into their coverage more with a humanistic approach while cable news took a policy approach. elevision News Archive were coded according to their identification of immigrants and visual cues.
