Abstract
Imbalanced Identity is an opinion piece in the form of an open letter directed towards first generation immigrant parents, centered around personal conflict with identity that stems from being raised with conservative Islamic values while being exposed to Western ones. It sympathizes with the struggle that immigrant parents experience when raising their children in a new culture, while critiquing the intolerance and resulting lack of communication that creates a barrier between parent and child.
